Amount of Earned Income Relief
The amount of relief (shown in the table below) is based on your age and taxable earned income in the previous year.
| Your age as of 31 Dec of the previous year | *Maximum amount claimable |
|---|---|
| Below 55 | $1,000 |
| 55 to 59 | $6,000 |
| 60 and above | $8,000 |
Worked Example
Say you’re 40 years old with a $96,000 yearly salary, a $8,000 yearly bonus, and $3,000 in tax-saving contributions (e.g. SRS or CPF Cash Top-up relief) — the calculator applies these in order:
- Taxable Income = Salary + Bonus − Tax Saving − Tax Relief = $96,000 + $8,000 − $3,000 − $1,000 (Earned Income Relief for under-55) = $100,000
- Singapore’s tax brackets are progressive, so each portion of your income is taxed at the rate for its own band, not your whole income at one flat rate:
- First $80,000 → $3,350 (per the table above)
- Next $20,000 (the $80,000–$100,000 band) → taxed at 11.5% = $2,300
- Total Income Tax ≈ $5,650
This “layered” calculation is why the calculator’s result is usually lower than multiplying your full income by the rate of your top bracket — only the income within each band is taxed at that band’s rate.
A Note on Accuracy
The tax brackets in this calculator match IRAS’s individual resident tax rates in effect for Year of Assessment 2026. IRAS occasionally announces one-off personal income tax rebates for a specific year of assessment (for example, a percentage rebate capped at a fixed dollar amount) — this calculator does not apply any such rebate, since it changes from year to year, so treat the result as your tax before any rebate you may separately qualify for. For your official assessment, always cross-check with the IRAS individual income tax rates page or your Notice of Assessment.
